Hi my Peeps! If we’re friends on Instagram and Facebook you’ve already seen some sneaks of our laundry room makeover. (And if we’re not friends on Instagram and Facebook, why not?! Let’s fix that shall we?! I’ll wait.) K welcome back! When we first looked at this house, this space was dark and dysfunctional. It had a utility sink hiding behind a door, cabinets with plastic handles, and those swirly blue-ish lightbulbs that I just can’t cope with. We made a few changes and it feels like a brand new space. Bonus that these changes also make the want-to-claw-my-eyeballs-out task of laundry a bit more bearable. Here’s the “after” of our Farmhouse Laundry Room makeover. (And spoiler alert! I love the end result… but I still don’t love laundry.)

Here is how the space looked the first time we saw it.

Those plastic handles on the cabinets had like 7″ SHARP screws holding them in. It was very strange.

SURPRIIIIISE! There’s a sink back there!
We wanted to make the space brighter, which was accomplished by a minor disaster switching out the light fixture for a “custom” one that I love in here. You can read all about that sweet little fixture here.
We switched out the cabinet hardware (and the door hardware… in this room and the entire house), and replaced the countertop with a charcoal gray quartz. That also meant that we got a new stainless steel under mount sink and a new Moen faucet.
Next, we built two floating shelves for above this sink. One 8″ deep for cute stuff, and one 24″ deep for our two laundry baskets.

Tutorial for the DIY floating shelves coming soon!
I love these shelves because it gives us a place to put the laundry baskets to get them out of the way, and keeps the countertop open. And also hellllloooooo cute laundry-ish accessoriesssss! *heart eyes*

Oversized Mason Jar (I got mine at Target, similar are linked here)
After the shelves came the 3×6 backsplash. I originally had a different material chosen for this spot, but it was a pewter color and I decided at the last minute it was too dark. Plus, you really can’t go wrong with a classic white subway tile.
After the backsplash I added a few accessories to the top of the cabinets above the washer and dryer, and then added a rug that I originally got for our bathroom, but ended up liking much better in here. The bold stripe makes such a huge impact in this smaller space and I just love it.

Beverage Dispenser & Stand, Cotton Stems, Steer Head {Target}, and the Laundry sign was made by yours truly with my handy-dandy Cricut Explore Air 2 Machine
I’m obsessed with this rug because of the dramatic impact it makes in this room, plus it was inexpensive, and can be tossed in the wash. WINNING.
All in, we spent about $950 in this room. Here’s how it breaks down:
Countertop (Quartz) & Sink – $500
Faucet – $150
Backsplash – $75 (materials only)
Light – $35
Shelves – $60
Accessories – $104 (For the soap, room spray, rug, mason jars, and boxwood plant. The rest I repurposed from other rooms.)
And that’s it friends! That’s our Farmhouse Laundry Room Tour.
I hope you got some good ideas to make your laundry room more enjoyable. If you’re gonna have to do it, the place where you wash your clothes may as well be cute and make you happy, and that’s definitely how I feel every time I walk in this room.
Happy laundering Peeps!
